  1. I enjoyed Nolan Ryan a Texas treasure and No Gumption because they were both stories that i could relate to. And made you feel happy not depressed scared or sad.

  2. The two stories I chose were Into thin air. I chose Into thin air because I really like how the main character in the story didn't back out of his life long dream without turning back at cold hard times.

I also chose the story The Chase because I liked how the little girl wasn't afraid to play with older boys and trow snowballs at random cars. I also like The chase because she stuck up for herself when the random man chose to chase her until she was caught.

  3. continuing onto the non fiction books they all were easy to relate to and did not take place so long ago we could not infer with now days knowledge. I enjoyed reading these short stories more than some of the ones we have read in the past and hope to read more like these ones

  4. The two stories that I enjoyed most were "Into Thin Air" and "Barrio Boy". I found it fascinating to learn about Mt. Everest, as I had no idea that you had to keep going up and down before reaching the peak. I thought it was really cool to hear about the treacherous Icefall. I thought "Barrio Boy" was a very inspiring story who's theme was to embrace your own culture. Out of all the stories, these were my favorites.

  5. The two pieces i liked best were "The Chase" and "Nolan Ryan: Texas Treasure". I liked these two stories the best because I could really relate to them and make connections. Like for instance in the Nolan Ryan story, I could relate to him because I play baseball too, and also, "The Chase" because I've been running away from someone after ding-dong-ditching or some other stupid, crazy thing I've done.

  6. My two favorite pieces were "Nolan Ryan, Texas Treasure" and "Into Thin Air". I liked Nolan Ryan because I love to play baseball. I like how he is modest and how he doesn't let fame transform his life. He sounds like the perfect person. He is a great inspiration. He reminds me of myself when I am pitching on the mound. Show no mercy. I also liked "Into Thin Air". I liked how John Krakauer showed determination and bravery when he climbed Mount Everest. I admire his courage and strive to be like him in my everyday life. He has an immense amount of skill and lets no obstacle stand in his way. In conclusion, both of these pieces are amazing. I hope that one day I could be like them

  7. Luca: I enjoyed 'Into Thin Air", and "The Chase" from our Non-Fiction section.
I liked "Into Thin Air" mostly because of the descriptions and the fact that I was reading the book at the time. Also I loved that it was not just like a regular article it had action and that was another reason it was pleasing to me.
"The Chase" was my second favorite story mostly because I like football as most boys do.

  8. I enjoyed many of the nonfiction pieces of literature we have read in this unit, but my favorites would have to be "The Chase" and Into Thin Air.
I enjoyed Into Thin Air because there was so much suspension. I tensed every time he was climbing up and across the ladders. This story made me think of the fear and joy he was feeling when he was climbing. I've never and might never feel such a thrill. Although some of the vocabulary and terms were foreign to me, I still found much pleasure in reading this adventurous story.
I've had experiences with people chasing me so I was able to relate to "The Chase".

  9. I think "Nolan Ryan, Texas Treasure" was one of my favorite nonfiction, literary pieces. After reading the story, I felt motivated to be just like Nolan Ryan; determined, humble, and healthy, both physically and mentally. When I read the quote, "it's a combination of physical condition and mental attitude: I realized that I can be a better person, by being physically healthier, and having a healthy mental attitude.

  10. Kate- I liked "The Chase" and "Into Thin Air" the best. First off, I can relate to Annie Dillard. I have played flag-football with boys. Sometimes, I wish I could always play with the boys, instead of doing girl things. I also love the feeling of all or nothing. You either put it all in, or do nothing. I liked "Into Thin Air" because it gave me the feeling of excitement and put me on the edge of my seat. I felt tension and suspense. I like stories that do that.

  11. My favorite story was "Into Thin Air". I could picture the catwalks in my mind, feel the fear he felt, and I felt like I was crossing the catwalk with him. I also enjoyed that I could relate to the feeling of "if I fall I die". I like to rock climb, but every time I fall backward, I always feel like I will fall 75 feet into death, even with a harness on. The sense of fear he describes reminds me of this experience, even though I have a harness and he doesnt. His near death experience reminds me of when I was halfway up an extremely hard climbing wall, and then my belayer said, "Climb down slowly and carefully. Your harness is on wrong." I wasn't scared of falling, but I was scared of having to restart the wall. "Into Thin Air" is my favorite nonfiction book.

  12. I have chosen "Barrio Boy" and "I Am a Native of North America" for one simple reason. They pinpoint the faults of modern society and explain them in description. These stories are told from the standpoints of two men from different cultures, one a Native America, and one Mexican. (to be continued)

  13. I like "No Gumption" and "The Chase" the best. They both hold childhood memories that I can relate to. In "No Gumption", I can relate to the sister who likes to help out and is comfortable talking with strangers. I liked "The Chase" because I can relate to the excitement of running through the streets.
