The Giver, Chapters 21-23

  1. Kate- I feel like Elsewhere isn't a ghost town. When someone is released, they are killed. Elsewhere may be heaven or h-e-l-l. Elsewhere may just be what the people call the place where you go when you die.

  2. Like I said in the discussion, I think that when Jonas saw the sled and the house with twinkling lights, it meant the he had reached Elsewhere. Those were his memories going back to the community. I don't know if he's dead or alive, but I believe that he has reached his destination: Elsewhere.

  3. I think Jonas lives at the end of The Giver. I think he lives at the end because in chapter 23 at the begging or throughout out it there is no proof of Jonas dying. On page 178 it says "Using his final strength, and a special knowledge that was deep inside him, Jonas found the sled that was waiting for them at the top of the hill." After this Jonas and Gabriel get on the sled and go down the hill, Jonas starts to lose consciousness but still it not dead. George
