Today in our discussion, I felt that we didn't really touch on a topic that I felt was important. I actually brought it up, but not many people carried it to the very end. When Gabriel first came to Jonas's home, and when Lily said he had weird blue eyes like Jonas, I felt that Lois Lowry put that description in "The Giver" for a reason, and that it would be important. In conclusion, I think that all Receivers had or will have blue eyes, and that the female receiver whom failed did not have pale blue eyes, and maybe the memories weren't fully transmitted to her because of that.
What do freedom and safety really mean in the book of the Giver? People don't even really know what freedom is. They've never experienced it, so why laugh about it? Do you think we live in a world of freedom or safety, or even both?
